Standard mode gives a straight-line distance to the target, shown down to a tenth of a yard or metre. Hold the power button to activate Active Scan, and the Vantage 400 will continuously update readings as you pan across targets or follow a moving subject. It’s a fast, intuitive way to confirm distance when time is short or when you want to sweep terrain and note landmark ranges.
When weather moves in, switch to Rain mode. This setting ignores interference from falling rain and also shows horizontal distance on the secondary readout, helping you make a realistic shot decision when precipitation could confuse other rangefinders. Hunt mode is tuned for tall grass and brush, filtering out foreground clutter so you can range through vegetation to the subject itself—especially useful for stalking deer or small game on the move.
HD mode focuses on the horizontal component of the distance, displaying true horizontal distance alongside the straight-line reading. If you are shooting at notable up- or downhill angles—think steep ground, tree stands or quarry faces—the horizontal distance is what your ballistic calculator or holdover chart needs. Angle mode reads the angle of projection to a tenth of a degree, with a minus sign shown when aiming downhill, so you can factor slope into your decision-making at a glance.
The optical system uses BK-7 prisms and multi anti-reflective coatings to keep the image bright and neutral, while the wide-angle design helps you acquire targets quickly at 6x. The adjustable dioptre lets you tune the display to your eye for a crisp reticle and readout. Power management is simple: the rangefinder shuts down automatically after a short period of inactivity to save the CR2 battery, and the sealed, nitrogen-purged chassis resists rain and internal fogging for dependable performance across seasons.
Compact enough to live in a chest pocket yet capable enough for a full day in the field, Hawke Vantage 400 Laser Range Finder brings reliable ranging, practical modes and clear optics together in a fuss-free package. Add it to your kit today and make confident range calls from first light to last.
